2005-03-16 - 11:48 a.m. Review Week: Doyles Pub
My friends and I at the time had planed to go the Brew Tour at 12:00. Get some food at a restaurant TBD (it was Doyles), head to the Bruins game (remember hockey) and then have a night out on the town. What ended up happening was we got 2 extra pitches at the tour (in addition to the first three). Then we ate and drank 3 pitchers, followed by another round at the bar. The Game, which was to be our sobering time, we drank straight through. Followed by going to the Hong and Kong and getting totally sick because of the shots and hard liquor we were drinking. Snippit: On the way home from the city, my friend Kerbang drove, and Unclepumpkin and I were in the Mom Seat and Behind Mom seat. He rolled down the window to puke. I saw him do this and thought getting air would have been a good idea. His puke sprayed the side of the car absolutely devastating it with vomit. I was too drunk to roll down the window and it was the best.thing.ever. WHAT IS IT LIKE?: Doyles is a fairly famous Pub in Boston. First off it was the first Pub in the world to serve Sam Adams. Thats huge. Still to this day the special brews get served on Tap there. They have a great brunch and also a pretty decent pub grub menu. BEER: The beer like I said is both extensive and good. The wait staff is very friendly and there is a large selection of most beers as well as a full bar and a small wine selection. They have many seasonal rotations as well as housing some of the worlds best beers like Guinness, Hoegaarden, Boddingtons, Jupiler, and many local beers. Its a good selection all around. WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL Besides being one of the better bars it also has gotten famous from being a very common spot to shot movies in Boston. Celtic Pride was shot there, and so was Blown Away and Mystic River. Actually you can see Kerrys comments Front and Center on their customer review page. WHY I SHOULDNT GO THERE: While its famous, its also tucked away in Jamacia Plain and not the easiest bar to find. In fact, my drunk compatriots and I wandered around for some time before finding it. Also it does hail very traditional Irish meals which I enjoy, but I would warn that the Irish are known for this drinking and fightingnot their loving and food. If you want a good meal, head over to the North End. Also they are so Irish that theyll refuse to serve Green Beer, which I must admit, I love the novelty of. OVERALL: Doyles is a great spot to say you have been to in Boston and if you have the time to take the train ride out there, then go for it and you wont be disappointed. I found the staff to be very knowledgably and friendly and will be willing to recommend whatever you are in the mood for. So if your in the mood for Cornbeef, Cabbage, and to get balistically drunk on great beer at a good price, Doyles just might be your number one spot this St. Patricks Day. |
