Might Morphing Power Rangers

Before - After

When I was in high school, I really liked the show Mighty Morphing Power Rangers.

Yes. High School.

Let me tell you why.

1) I always loved Godzilla movies. The cheap looking ones where they dub over the voices and some crazy robot comes and something that you cant understand happens. Then it zooms into Godzillas face and he gives his cry, and then he destroys Toyko. I find these movies funnier and more entertaining than most comedies. I used to watch them with my grandmother all the time when I was little.

2) I love shows that you can make fun of -- and Uncle Pumpkin and I LOVED making fun of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

3) The shows villain was so obviously not in the United States and the footage was totally taken from Japanwhat isnt to love about a show where 45% is stock footage.

4) The Putties.

So let me outline every show that there ever was of Might Morphing Power Rangers Season 1.

1) Red Ranger --- The White Jock/Frat boy guy.
2) Pink Ranger --- The hot gymnastic girl who liked the Red PR. (incidentally Amy Jo Johnson was the only one who moved on from this with some level of success, and its mostly due to the fact she looks like Jennifer Garner)
3) Black Ranger --- Token Black guy. He actually gets bit parts in other shows now.
4) Yellow Ranger Asian Ranger. Never heard from again.
5) Blue Ranger The tag line from the series read -- Four athletically able teenagers along with their brainy friend Billy are selected by Zordon to fight the evil of Rita Repulsa

Poor Brainy Billy. Why not just be like the fat kid. Way to keep him out of the loop.

Not the black and yellow ranger werent out of the white wash love story between Pink and Red.

Anyway.

The whole show centered around this.

1) Shot in a school/real world setting. Something bad would happen. This something bad would be the lesson for the episode. Say they broke a stereo. Theyd be fighting a wavelength monster. The sad thing is the monster footage was preshot. So whatever creature they foughtthey had to make up some zany story about the monster. The whole show was putting the cart before the horse.

2) The Evil woman would see the bad thing and turn some object into a monster. She would then send the monster putties. Putties are Gods forgotten Children. They are basically masked ninjas that the power rangers beat the ever loving snot out of. I mean 1 power ranger could easily take 167 putties. Except the Blue Ranger. He sucks. I dont even think he knows Karate.

3) The Power Rangers will begin to defeat the monster. So the Evil woman makes the monster big.

4) The Power Rangers battle in a fake city killing the monster, after it appears they are not going to win. They use a giant lighting sword the blows the monster away.

This show always bothered me. Why not use the big robot right away. You know the guy is going to grow large. Just cut him off at the pass, get big, and step on the little guy? Is it me?

Anyway the production value was SOOO high one this show check out the following IMDB info:

The suits of several monsters were modified in some fashion in order to create new monsters for American footage. Such monsters were: Pudgy Pig was disassembled, and parts were used for Turkey Jerk in Season 2's "Storybook Rangers." Mr. Ticklesneezer was repainted and clad in a Santa Claus-like suit, becoming Grumble the Elf in Season 2's "Storybook Rangers." Snizard was repainted and modified with a cobra hood to become the Cobra Monster in "Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue" (2000)'s "The Cobra Strikes." Chunky Chicken was also disassembled for use in Turkey Jerk. Grumble Bee was repainted and given buck teeth to become Waspicable in "Power Rangers In Space" (1998)'s "The Wasp With A Heart." Primator was repainted and given extra fur, and became the Snow Monster in Season 2's "Storybook Rangers." Salaguana was disassembled into the reptillian parts of Triter from "Power Rangers Zeo" (1996)'s "King For A Day." Silver Horns was repainted and a tongue was added, becoming Repellator in Season 3's "A Friend In Need." Merrick the Barbaric's head was removed, and his body was used for Incisorator in the Season 3 episode, "Changing Of The Zords" (ironically, Incisorator's episode aired before Merrick's).

In addition to the first season which was pure camp comedythe best part of the show was Tommy the Green Ranger.

He came in to the show like the Dylan McKay of Power Rangers and just out cooled Brandon Red Ranger Walsh.

The Green Ranger originally was an enemy of the Power Rangers but after being beaten into submission he fought for the forces of good. In general this is a great way to go for sex appeal. Be badthen go good, but have that bad edge to you. It drives the ladies wild.

Another part of my favorite subplots was the power ranger walkout where the yellow, black, and red ranger all decided that they deserved more money.

Excuse me?

You are mostly played by a giant robot or a character in mask. The yellow ranger SHOULD have been replaced since she was hella boring. The black ranger was just a cog as well. I dont know what they were thinking. The Red Ranger well at least he seemed to have a future.

After they walked out and were replaced (with a snap of the finger I might add) the Red Ranger realized his mistakes and came crawling back as the Gold Ranger.

Tommy, the shows official badass, actually became a white ranger at one point, and then got the title of Doctor (I assume at the Power Ranger Medical School) and then got demoted to Black Ranger.

What is that telling children incidentally? Go get your doctoratethen you can be the black ranger.

And incidentally, as an African American actorhow did you feel when they broke out the black ranger costume for you? Where was the NAACP on that one?

Here Mexican Rangeryou can be the Piata monster.

Nothing like good old fashion racism on childrens programming.

Strangely Canada yanked the show for violence. Why not just come out and say We are yanking it because we want our children to have good taste. I would have respected you more. And what? Is the US going to MOVE because you think Power Rangers is tacky? I think NAFTA was gonna be fine.

But violence. Thats a joke. I mean hockey still is on the air right? And you are worried about spandex dressed teenagers in a giant robot suit smashing up a fake city? Do you really think thats going to inspire Canadian youth to blow up the CN tower?

Anyway the Rangers is a perennial I shouldnt be watching this because Im too old show that I enjoy. Others include Pete and Pete, Pokemon, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Lizzy Maguire, and Barney

Im just kidding about Lizzy Maguire. Hillary Duffs face is too square.
