I had my diary reviewed by diary reviews, and for the most part it was good. In fact the only part I lost points for was the content, which was grammar and spelling, (and yes, I deserved that) but also that some of my entries were boring.
She did give me an 85/100 which is pretty good, and she did say that I had a unqie style of writing (which maybe a backhanded compliment) but I liked it. But boring?!?!
So in my commitment to cleverness instead of making a really interesting exciting entry entry (mostly cause I couldnt think of one), I am going to write the most boring one possible. I am going to mathematical prove why a certain number DOESNT exist.
Ever wonder why we have repeating numbers? Like the repeating 3 or the repeating 6. No? Didnt thing so.
But we do. 1 divided by 3 = .333333333333333333333333 forever. WOW!!! Forever. Yes.
This can happen to all number 1-8. But it cant happen to 9. Would you like to know why?
Well then stop reading.
Since diaryland wont let me use mathematical symbols I have to make up my own. For .99999999999999999999999999999999999999999 infinitely I will use this term
9r okay. That stand for infinite nines.
So I want to contest the 9r actually equal the number 1.0
1) 1.0 = 9r
So now what I want to do to prove this is to show that removing 9r from the equation will leave each side equal. I will use a proving method called substitution. (yes this is the most boring entry ever)
To do this I will take equation 1) and change 9r to .9 + .09r which is the same thing. (ie 9r = .99999999999999, thus I just pull one 9 out and leave .099999999999999 in.)
2) 1.0 = .99r
Now I will take the .9 I just made and subtracted it from the 1.0 leaving equation 4
3) 1.0 - .9 = .9 +.09r -.9
4) .1 = .09r
Now we have equation four and I will refrence that where .09r equals .1
Using equation 2 I will add .1 to each side
5) 1.0 + .1 = .9 +.09r + .1
6) 1.1 = 1.09r
Knowing from equation 4 that .1 equals .09r we can remove .09r and replace it with .1
7) 1.1 = 1 + .1
8) 1.1 = 1.1
This is now proved because they are equivalent statements. Just subtract .1 from each side and you find that 1=1 which is a true statement. Thus 9r equal 1.
This may have looked like a simple proof and that you could do it for all the repeating numbers, but you cant. Also if you dont believe me, just but tons of nines into a graphic calculator and you will see the calc turn that statement into 1.
The number theory argument behind this is since 1 represent a whole and that .9 repeating doesnt have a limit. Which is a bunch of math talk. If you made it this far, I apologize, but I just wanted to show people what a boring entry is. Please check the link of the day as your reward. Thank you.
