By Associated Press, 4/16/2003 07:37
BOSTON (AP) A motorcyclist traveling with two other bikers became the newly opened Liberty Tunnel's first fatality, when he crashed and was run over by his companions, state police said.
Ramon Carrasco, 31, of Boston, apparently lost control about 10 p.m. Tuesday while traveling north on Interstate 93, struck the side of the tunnel and was thrown to the pavement, where he was struck by two other drivers, a motorcyclist and a sedan, according to State Police Sgt. Edward Principe. He said Carrasco was pronounced dead at the scene.
Treated for minor injuries were the other bikers Anthony Crutchfield, 30, of Somerville and Manuel Ortiz-Moyet, 24, of Boston.
Principe said the accident remains under investigation, but the motorcycles were believed to be traveling about 80 mph in a 45 mph zone.
