Hey Gumpy -- I saw an Iraqi soldier wearing a Yankees cap. I almost cried for you, but instead I took a picture. E-mail me if you want it.

I feel as if I am bound to say this...the yankees suck...I live in baltimore...what else can I say. (secretly I cheer for the yankees because the orioles really suck ass) But as far as the people around me are concerned...Go Orioles!

We've established what he is, he's just haggling over the price.

You're supposed to warn us before sports entries.

Ouch! First the Bruins barter Thornton and now Damon is yanked by the Yankees! It's not a good time to be a Boston sports fan. At least you still have the Pats to pull for. What do we have, the Leafs? Raptors? Yikes! The Jays do look good this coming season, too bad they couldn't go back to their previous logo instead of the ugly new Toronto Devil-Jays look.

Gumphood - 2005-12-21 12:01:09
hehe....devil jay.

Its not been a good year to be a sports fan. Its okay. We've been pampered. Its time to suffer.

Heh. Johnny Damon is about to learn the same lesson that Nomah and Pedro learned. You don't want us--we don't want you. And nowhere else in the world will they love you like we did. Certainly not when you're just one more guy with millions of dollars and the same haircut in Yankee pinstripes...I really do hope his heart breaks the first time he steps onto the field at Fenway in his ugly new uniform and gets booed. Serve him rigth. Not for becoming a Yankee, but for going on and on about how much he loves playing for the Sox and how he wants to stay and then sneaking out the back door, following a $14 million carrot.

Gumphood - 2005-12-21 12:19:09
I can understand using the yankees to get more moeny, but he played here and understands what it means to him. We are going to hate him ... so much. Its sad really because people used to love him, but we are loyal to the team, not the player -- unless the player left against their will (Derrik Lowe, Kevin Millar, Orlando, Roberts ... etc)

"Its not been a good year to be a sports fan. Its okay. We've been pampered. Its time to suffer." Toronto fans are like Boston fans. We're good at suffering. We've had lots of pratice.

Procrasto - 2005-12-21 13:40:16
I like to see Toronto suffer. Especially the Leafs. And their whiney fans. (No offence, Al) I have no time for baseball players period. Or the baseball structure. It's so corrupt and wrong. Except the BoSox. They keep me in your diary.

I find it coincidental that they get new co-managers and everyone wants out. Not good.

Procrasto, after reading your comment, I had this inkling, and then after clicking your link, my instinct was correct. You're nothing but a no good HAB Fan! ;) For this, I must go read your blog.

the-pala - 2005-12-21 15:32:31
how can a player expect to be loyal to an organization when the mbl allows a moneyhog like the yankees to buy a starting lineup worth over $100 million while the little guys like royals pays 29% more than A-Rod's salary alone in 2005? frankly, i'll be sad to see damon go, but in the end i hope the sox acquires quality guys who will play hard while having the same allegiance to boston as ray borque did. in the meantime, i hope damon chokes on his millions.

I totally sympathize with you. I'm a hardcore SF Giants fan. If that doesn't say it all in a nut shell, I don't really know what DOES.

The entire American League can go to hell. Stupid designated hitters.
-------------------------------
jennifer - 2005-12-21 21:22:11
That's it,the-pala. We need a whole team of Wakefields!
-------------------------------
Procrasto - 2005-12-22 09:03:44
I don't even know how to define what a designated hitter is.

Durken - 2005-12-22 13:07:01
Remember when the Red Sox were getting destroyed by the Yankees in the '04 playoffs and people turned in their Red Sox hats for Yankee hats? That was good foresight. (Yes the Red Sox won the world series but now they will suck forever more) THE CURSE OF THEO

candoor - 2005-12-24 05:12:48
there's still the Patriot's threepeat, which looks better than ever lately... I just found Bronson Arroyo's CD at the library... interesting choice of covers to try to sing... it's also a bad year to be into fantasy football (I think my roommate is running away with it)...
-------------------------------
Datchery - 2005-12-30 06:49:41
If there was no connection between the two events (2 new co-managers and everyone suddenly abandoning ship) then it would be a coincidence. However, these do 'not' appear to be coincidences at all. I mean for crying out loud, who pays someone 11 million dollars just to get rid of them for nothing in return? That's insane.
