I always found TombRaider funny. For fairly obvious reasons. I could be a badass girl. With large... um.... errr... Get in the game, Gump.

There is humor, and then there is situational humor. The comic on stage could suck, but when I hit him with my beer, that might be funny. That doesn't make the comic funny. I think throwing the beer is the funniest video games have gone. There is alot of room for some decent stand-up.

Getting a helicopter and decapitating people in the street with the blades is fun. I suggest you try.

Well then you haven't played Katamari Damacy, that game is hilarious and just so much fun.

Why would the gaming companies be concerned with making funny games when GTA/ Halo/ Etc. sell so well? Humor is hard to pull off in a game because:

A) Humor is subjective... Not everyone thinks the same thing is funny. Violence is violence no matter where you go.

2)"Humor" starts losing its appeal after the first time you see/hear it, whereas morbid humor, like handing a hand grenade to someone and running, has "legs" and is funny for a long time.

III)Who says that blowing shit up isn't funny? I remember the first time playing Doom and literally crying with laughter as I was walking around blowing demons away. Good times.

Leisure Suit Larry is pretty funny if you're in to making your main character burp and fart in front of almost naked females.

I am not saying that Halo, GTA should try to change the formula, but its a big big gaming buisness. Their formula for a video game is very successful but they are also fairly unique(not so much Halo, but I will give it cred). They do well in what they do. I am talking about a new funny game that will make you laugh. We have action movies, drama movies, and comedy, and horror. ( same with books) Video Games have horror (res-evil, Devil May Cry, Afraid of dark) and Drama (your RPG) and Action (and 1st person shooter). The good ones mix action with story. Why not comedies? And I agree, but the point is, were I too make a video game I would try that untapped genre. An action replayable comedy game. Violence can be part of it, but just sharper writing would at least make it a really fun game you want to play.

LSL is a good example of what i am talking about. Sierra used to make games like the Space Quest, and Hero Quests that were really funny at times, but the industry has lost that. Those games were a blast. Kerbang, Sam, what were those space games called?

Space Quest. Check it out.

I also like manic mansion, but those types of games don't come out anymore? Why? They have faded away, now relying more on graphics and mayhem than good writing.

HA! I'm an idiot

Curse of Monkey Island was a good game, and funny. Nothing snide to say today, you've satisfied me with video game talk.

I've never played any of those games and I know nothing about them. In fact I havent played any video games at all since I was a kid. I really need to crawl out of the cave I live in.

Naming a Sim "Shrubya," and lighting him on fire. Now THAT'S funny! (As is drowning him, walling him up, and electrocuting him.)

Pandi, I used to lock the social worker in the babies room, and watch them both die.

I love ALL of the GTA games; especially the new one and Vice City. It's so much fun; beating people with bats, stealing cars, running over hookers....hmm...this explains why I have no female friends.

pumpkin is right. there are funny games, but they require good writing and appeal to a much more narrow audience. no 'funny game' will ever have the mass market appeal of a halo or gta. there will never be a cover of some gamer magazine with "This game is FUNNY!!!!" on it.

Thank God someone else has a disgust for Elmo-I was beginning to think that it made me some kind o' monster to not relate to him as does almost everyone i know. I never could understand the fascination with that putrid little fur-ball. Anyways, it was fluke that I saw that but believe you me it did wonders for my mental state.
